Colorado Somali Bantu Goals and Achievements
Goals
The Somali Bantu community living in
Colorado wish to become successful, productive members of American society while staying together as a community. They are committed to learning English, having their children in school, and nurturing their families while encouraging community-affirming activities.
The Somali Bantu hope to attain an office in the near future. They are attending training about business practices in
and are exploring the possibility of opening a community-owned small business.
Another goal is to have Somali Bantu trained and certified to translate in the health, social, judicial, and educational fields.The ultimate goal of the Somali Bantu is to own and operate an organic Community farm in
Colorado .
Achievements:
2003 First Somali Bantu begin arriving in
Denver 2004 Established the Somali Bantu Community Development Council of
Colorado 2004-05 Assisted in creation of the East 13th Avenue Community Garden 2006 Development Council received nonprofit status 2006 Graduated from translator service school 200 Received funding from ISED for Farming Council 2007 Graduated from the Denver Police Department Community Training Program
